Baguio City Braces for Colder Temperatures, 8°C Expected in January

Baguio city: Temperatures in Baguio City remain within the normal range but are expected to drop to 8 degrees Celsius or lower by January, the weather bureau said Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA chief weather specialist Larry Esperanza stated that the current minimum temperatures in Baguio City range from 16 to 17 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures reaching between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius. "This is our normal temperature which is not very high or low. However, we should expect a temperature that is below 10 degrees," Esperanza noted during a media interview.

Esperanza highlighted that the lowest recorded temperature in Baguio was 6.3 degrees Celsius in 1961. Although such a low temperature is not predicted for 2026, the potential for future extreme cold or heat events in the city may increase due to climate change.

He also advised residents, particularly the elderly, to keep warm as colder weather is anticipated in the coming weeks.
