Baguio: The City Health Services Office (CHSO) has enlisted the help of 'Donya Pidang Sayote,' a UK-based nurse and popular Cordilleran vlogger, to enhance the local government's campaign against smoking and vaping. Dr. Donnabel Tubera-Panes, head of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit and focal person for the Smoke-Free Baguio program, announced that the vlogger, originally from Baguio City, agreed to support the advocacy without any charge while he is in the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, 'Donya Pidang Sayote' is a well-loved social media personality in Baguio City and Benguet. Known for his humorous skits and strong connection with the Cordilleran community, he works professionally as a nurse in the United Kingdom. He is a non-smoker and a father, with his youngest daughter being a year old. His content, mainly in Ilocano, resonates with audiences in Baguio and surrounding Benguet areas.
Dr. Tubera-Panes mentioned that the collaboration seeks to address Baguio's high rate of second-hand smoke exposure at home, as indicated by the 2023 Baguio Youth Tobacco Survey. She noted that his content will maintain its original style but will incorporate elements of the campaign. "We invited him because of his wide follower base in CAR," she stated.
Karl Pagada, CHSO Health Promotions Officer, highlighted that choosing a local influencer adds credibility to the campaign, especially given his nursing background. The initiative aims to reach youth and parents, promote men's health, and advocate for non-communicable disease prevention through active mobility.
Since arriving in the country in April, 'Donya Pidang Sayote' has been managing family projects and exploring business opportunities while also supporting local health advocacy efforts.
