Bali Ferry Tragedy: 29 Remain Missing, 6 Dead

Bali: Thirty individuals aboard the ill-fated Tunu Pratama Jaya ferry have been confirmed safe as of Friday evening, while 29 others remain missing following the vessel's capsizing off the coast of Bali on Wednesday night. The death toll from the ferry accident stood at six.

According to Philippines News Agency, National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Deputy for Search and Rescue Operations and Preparedness, Ribut Eko Suyanto, reported the challenging conditions during Friday's search efforts, with rescuers encountering wave heights of 2.5 meters, strong winds, and visibility limited to three kilometers in the waters around Bali Island.

Search operations have been concentrated on the northern Ketapang-Gilimanuk route and the southern area off Bali Island. Wahyu Setia Budi, coordinator of the Banyuwangi SAR agency, noted that the Tunu Pratama Jaya roll-on/roll-off vessel was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 cars at the time of the incident.

The vessel departed from Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi District, East Java, heading for Bali's Gilimanuk Port on Wednesday at 10:56 p.m. local time and reportedly sank at 11:35 p.m. In response to the tragedy, President Prabowo Subianto has instructed all relevant government agencies to make their utmost efforts to rescue all passengers and crew members of the ill-fated vessel.
