Manila: A total of 100 housing units were turned over Thursday by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) government to qualified beneficiaries in Barangay Tamontaka Mother here under its 'Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan' (KAPYANAN) project.

According to Philippines News Agency, hope and light now shine brighter in the village of Tamontaka Mother as recipients received their core shelters equipped with solar-powered lights, according to Abdullah Cusain, assistant senior minister of the BARMM and concurrent KAPYANAN project manager.

'This milestone brings safety, dignity, and a permanent home to 100 Bangsamoro families,' Cusain, whose office falls under the office of BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, said in a statement Friday.

Cotabato City Mayor Bruce Matabalao lauded KAPYANAN officials for giving indigent Bangsamoro residents the opportunity to own decent homes. He said Thursday's turnover of the housing units marks the 2nd batch of 100 units presented to indigent families in the city.

'We are finalizing the last 100 units to complete the 300-unit target for Barangay Tamontaka Mother,' he said in an interview on Friday.

Barangay Tamontaka Mother chairperson Datu Jawawi Sema expressed joy at the housing units' turnover. 'We accept the responsibility to ensure our newly resettled families are properly integrated into our community,' he said.

Since 2019, the BARMM government, through the KAPYANAN project, has programmed the construction of 7,630 core shelter units across the region. While thousands of units have already been completed and turned over in phases, the regional government has yet to release an official cumulative total of completed and awarded housing units.
