Batang Laguna Basketball Team to Compete in Singapore’s World Youth Championship

Manila: Forty-seven young basketball players from Batang Laguna are set to represent the Philippines in the World Youth Championship in Singapore from August 6 to 9, 2026. Provincial Information Officer Danilo Lucas announced that the team will compete under the theme "Where the Future Meets the World."

According to Philippines News Agency, the three-day tournament will feature age-group categories from under-10 to under-23. More than 25 elite teams from 14 nations, along with representative squads from around the world, will vie for the title in one of the region's premier youth basketball events. Teams from the United States, United Arab Emirates, Japan, South Korea, China, and other countries will compete in over 100 games across four campuses serving as official venues in Singapore.

In line with the provincial government's youth development and sports program, the players received financial and transportation support for the international competition, Lucas stated. Batang Laguna founder and team manager, Nestin Meriz Sandoval, expressed gratitude to Governor Sol Aragones for the assistance provided.

"We are thankful because Gov. Sol gave us financial support for the players and the bus service before heading to Singapore," Sandoval said. Batang Laguna is an organization dedicated to nurturing young athletes through expert coaching, structured training, and real-game experience.
