Beata Bridge Set for Immediate Repairs Amid Security Concerns

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced plans to repair the Beata Bridge in Pandacan, following concerns over stolen steel railings. This move comes as part of efforts to enhance the safety and security of the bridge, which has been prone to accidents.

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno have pledged to address the ongoing issue and strengthen the bridge's railings. Dizon noted the importance of collaborating with Mayor Moreno, emphasizing a practical approach to the recurring problem that has persisted since 2021.

In addition to the missing railings, the lack of adequate lighting and warning signs on the bridge has been identified as a cause of frequent accidents. To mitigate these risks, Dizon has directed the immediate commencement of welding the railings and the installation of reflectorized paints, additional lighting, and warning signs to improve safety, particularly during nighttime.

Mayor Moreno expressed gratitude to the department for its swift response to his appeal, highlighting the importance of addressing the safety concerns for the community.
