Paris: US billionaire Jeff Bezos said Thursday that, contrary to predictions by many, artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to labor shortages rather than reduce employment opportunities. Addressing concerns that AI could replace human workers, Amazon founder Bezos expressed his strong disagreement with that view.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bezos stated at the VivaTech technology fair in Paris, "I absolutely do not agree with that. I think artificial intelligence will create labor shortages because it will allow people to identify more problems." Bezos argued that there are limitless possibilities for invention and that the current constraints stem from the ability to execute ideas rather than imagine them. "It is not our imagination that limits us, but what we are able to do," he added.
Bezos elaborated that many ideas remain unrealized due to their complexity in implementation, but AI could expedite the process, making more of those ideas achievable. Notably, since late last year, Amazon, the e-commerce giant founded by Bezos, has cut some 30,000 jobs while striving for supremacy in AI.
The conversation also turned to space exploration. Bezos, who founded the space company Blue Origin, highlighted that space is limited not by demand but by supply. He suggested that restricted access to space could become a significant obstacle to future development. Emphasizing the importance of lunar exploration, Bezos stated, "We will go to the moon not only to visit, but to stay."
