Oroquieta city: The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will host the 2026 National Fire Olympics in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental from March 24 to 26, bringing together firefighters from across the country to compete in a series of emergency response and rescue challenges.
According to Philippines News Agency, fourteen teams will participate in this year's competition, composed of representatives from 13 BFP regional offices and one team from the BFP Central Office. In an interview on Monday, Romel Tradio, BFP Northern Mindanao director, said preparations are underway in coordination with local government units and partner agencies to ensure the smooth staging of the national event.
Tradio stated, 'We are closely coordinating with the host local government units and partner agencies to ensure that all logistical and operational requirements are in place for the safe and successful conduct of the 2026 National Fire Olympics.' The competition will feature major firefighting challenges, including the Life Extrication Challenge, Rope Rescue Challenge, and Toughest Firefighter Challenge, which test firefighters' endurance, technical skills, and operational readiness through simulated emergency scenarios.
Aside from the operational competitions, other activities lined up during the event include the Fire Safety Quiz Bowl, which will highlight the participants' knowledge on fire prevention, safety protocols, and emergency response strategies. The event will also feature the Miss National Fire Olympics pageant, showcasing the advocacy, leadership, and public safety awareness of BFP personnel representing their respective regions.
Meanwhile, the provincial government of Misamis Occidental assured its full support for the national gathering. Misamis Occidental Information Officer Shane Nagtalon, in a phone interview, stated that Gov. Henry Oaminal is also working closely with the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to provide security and logistical support during the event.
Local officials said hosting the National Fire Olympics is also expected to boost tourism and local economic activity while showcasing the province as a venue for major national events. The National Fire Olympics is part of the BFP's continuing efforts to enhance the competence and operational readiness of firefighters while promoting public awareness on fire prevention, particularly during Fire Prevention Month, which is observed every March.
