Bicol Police Capture 36 Suspects and Seize PHP 4.5 Million Shabu in Intensive Week-long Operations

Legazpi City: The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) successfully confiscated PHP 4.59 million worth of illegal drugs and apprehended 36 individuals during a series of operations conducted from June 2 to 8.

According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon reported that 31 anti-drug operations led to the arrest of 36 individuals. Of those arrested, six were identified as high-value individuals (HVIs), 28 as street-level individuals (SLIs), and two were newly listed suspects recently added to the police watchlist. The operations resulted in the recovery of 375.76 grams of shabu and 34.80 grams of marijuana, with a total estimated value of PHP 4.59 million.

The largest drug seizure occurred in Sorsogon, amounting to PHP 2.04 million, followed by Camarines Norte with drugs valued at PHP 1.81 million. Additional seizures included PHP 353,600 in Masbate, PHP 184,620 in Naga City, PHP 176,316 in Albay, and PHP 27,682.12 in Camarines Sur.

Dizon stated that the arrested suspects are now facing charges for violating Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. "We will not stop until we cleanse our region of illegal drugs. The support of the community is key to the success of our operations," he emphasized.

The PRO-5 confirmed its continued commitment to an intensified campaign against illegal drugs in the region. It highlighted broader community engagement as a measure to expedite the identification and suppression of those involved in the sale and use of illegal drugs.

In addition to the anti-drug operations, PRO-5 personnel were recognized for their outstanding service and dedication during an awarding ceremony at the flag-raising event at the PRO5 Grandstand, Camp BGen Simeon A. Ola in Legazpi City. Among those honored with the Medalya ng Kagalingan were Lt. Col. Edgar Azotea, Executive M/Sgt. Junny Mabini, M/Sgt. Jojo Monsalve, and S/Sgt. Raymund Trinidad. They were commended for their service in connection with the successful arrest of suspects in violation of RA 10591, RA 9516, and the Omnibus Election Code, leading to the confiscation of firearms and explosives.

S/Sgt. Roda Lagamayo received the Medalya ng Papuri for her dedication and service as a member of the Sorsogon Medical Team. "These acts of bravery and professionalism exemplify the true spirit of public service. Their unwavering commitment and integrity serve as an inspiration to others in the police force and the community we serve," Dizon stated.
