Bicol: The Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) has intensified road safety initiatives and enforcement operations following 3,934 vehicular accidents recorded across the Bicol Region from Dec. 1, 2025, to Feb. 25, 2026, officials reported Friday. The incidents included cases of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, homicide, and physical injuries, raising serious concerns over road safety and responsible driving.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-5 chief Brig. Gen. Erosito Miranda ordered regular deployment of personnel for traffic management and reminded motorists to strictly observe traffic laws and safety precautions. As deputized agents of the Land Transportation Office, PRO-5 personnel strictly enforce traffic regulations and distribute information, education, and communication materials to promote defensive driving.
A theoretical driving course benefited 153 Philippine National Police personnel and their beneficiaries, while a road safety seminar was conducted for 358 personnel. A 16-day Executive Motorcycle Riding Course beginning Saturday aims to enhance competency and discipline among motorcycle riders assigned to patrol duties.
Brig. Gen. Miranda emphasized the legal implications of allowing minors to drive and highlighted the importance of parental responsibility. He stated that the rising number of road accidents requires immediate and sustained action, adding that enforcement alone is not enough. He called for discipline, awareness, and cooperation from every motorist and urged the public to partner with law enforcers in promoting road safety.
