Bicol Provinces Suspend Classes Due to STS Tino

Sorsogon: Classes in all levels, both public and private schools, are suspended in Sorsogon and Masbate due to the anticipated impact of Severe Tropical Storm Tino (international name Kalmaegi). Sorsogon Gov. Edwin Hamor said based on recommendations from the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Tino may bring moderate to heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas or near river channels, as well as possible landslides in highly susceptible regions.

According to Philippines News Agency, it is imperative to ensure the safety and welfare of students, teaching personnel, non-teaching personnel, and the general public amid the potential threats posed by the weather disturbance, as stated in the executive order issued by Hamor. Meanwhile, Masbate Gov. Richard Kho said the suspension is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and parents. He noted that storm surges and flooding in low-lying areas, as well as landslides in mountainous regions may occur.

Everyone is strongly advised to stay in safe areas and avoid coastal regions. Gov. Kho emphasized the importance of being prepared for possible emergencies and responding immediately to warnings from authorities. He added that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and related agencies are ready to respond.
