Manila: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has announced an extension for the estate tax amnesty application deadline, moving it from June 14 to June 16. This change provides taxpayers additional time to comply with the necessary requirements under the estate tax amnesty law.
According to Philippines News Agency, the BIR released an advisory late Wednesday highlighting the new deadline. Taxpayers are encouraged to file their estate tax amnesty applications on or before June 16 to accommodate standard processing and bank cut-off times.
The estate tax amnesty applies to estates of individuals who passed away on or before May 31, 2022. It includes estates without assessments duly issued, whose estate tax liabilities have remained unpaid or accrued by May 31, 2022.
To avail of the amnesty, applicants must submit a duly accomplished and sworn Estate Tax Amnesty Return and acceptance payment form, along with proof of payment and complete documentary requirements. These documents must be submitted in triplicate to the relevant Revenue District Office no later than the new deadline.
The BIR emphasized that failing to submit these documents would result in non-availment of the Estate Tax Amnesty, with any payments made potentially applied against the total regular estate tax due, including penalties.
Tax payments under this amnesty cannot be processed online. They must be made over-the-counter at an authorized agent bank (AAB) or through revenue collection officers at the respective Revenue District Offices. AABs will extend their banking hours to accept payments until 5 p.m. on June 16.
