Manila: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) announced that its district offices would extend their work hours until midnight to assist taxpayers seeking to avail themselves of the estate tax amnesty. This measure is intended to ensure that all applications are processed, even if it requires working beyond normal office hours.
According to Philippines News Agency, BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui stated that as long as taxpayers arrive in the district office on or before 5 p.m., their applications for the estate tax amnesty will be entertained, regardless of the time required to complete the process. This initiative is part of the BIR's efforts to facilitate compliance with the estate tax amnesty deadline under Republic Act No. 11213, as amended.
The estate tax amnesty allows taxpayers to settle their estate liabilities at a flat rate of 6 percent, with all penalties, surcharges, and interest being waived. The BIR aims to encourage taxpayers to resolve their estate tax obligations efficiently and promptly.
Additionally, the BIR issued a tax advisory indicating that the banking hours for all authorized agent banks are extended until 5 p.m. from June 4 to June 16, 2025. This extension is specifically for accepting estate tax payments, providing taxpayers with more flexibility to meet their obligations within the amnesty period.
