Quezon city: The Bureau of Internal Revenue and TikTok Philippines are discussing a partnership to further strengthen digital tax education and promote voluntary compliance as the government rolls out the 2026 National Tax Campaign. In a news release Thursday, the BIR said Commissioner Charlie Mendoza and lawyer Yves Gonzalez, Head of Public Policy for TikTok in the Philippines, led their respective teams during a meeting at the BIR office in Quezon City on Jan. 12.
According to Philippines News Agency, discussions involved tapping TikTok to disseminate key tax messages through short, platform-appropriate content and creator-led materials, particularly in February or during Tax Awareness Month. BIR, for its part, will conduct onsite and online workshops with TikTok that will focus on taxpayer registration, taxable income streams, filing and payment procedures, and common compliance issues.
Mendoza said tapping digital platforms in educating the public "is no longer optional - it is necessary. We must go where the new generation of taxpayers are." He added that this initiative complements the ongoing digitalization efforts and aligns with the President's directive to simplify government transactions, as well as the guidance of the Secretary of Finance to strengthen tax collection while providing better assistance to taxpayers.
Gonzales, in turn, said TikTok "is committed to empowering Filipinos with the knowledge and resources to stay informed and navigate their civic duties responsibly in the digital age." She expressed anticipation in supporting the BIR in transforming the way they connect with the public through accessible, relatable, and engaging content through their official TikTok channel.
