BJMP-Bansud Celebrates 8th Graduation Ceremony for Inmate-Learners

Bansud: The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Bansud District Jail recently held its eighth 'Moving Up and Graduation' ceremony, honoring inmate-learners who successfully completed their elementary and junior high education for the 2024-2025 school year.

According to Philippines News Agency, the event, themed 'Henerasyon ng Pagkakaisa: Kaagapay ng Bagong Pilipinas,' highlighted BJMP's ongoing commitment to using education as a tool for rehabilitation and reintegration. Acting District Jail Warden Senior Inspector Nelmar Malilmata commended the 35 graduates, comprising six elementary and 29 junior high students, for their dedication and perseverance. He emphasized the transformative power of education in the lives of those incarcerated and expressed gratitude to partner agencies, prison teachers, and stakeholders for their support of the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

Certificates of completion were presented by District ALS Focal Person Francisco Alinio, with formal recognition by Public Schools District Supervisor Dr. Genalin Alinio. Keynote speaker Donalyn de Guzman Jamilla encouraged the graduates to continue their educational journeys, while Education Program Supervisor I for ALS (EPSA I) Odesca Salazar praised jail personnel for their efforts in implementing programs that aid persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in reshaping their futures.

Earlier in the year, funds from the October 2024 Color Fun Run were allocated to construct the new Silid-Kulay ng Pag-asa classroom, which by February 2025 had enrolled 23 elementary and 29 junior high learners. BJMP Mimaropa Regional Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo reiterated the bureau's steadfast dedication to empowering PDLs and helping them become valuable members of society through initiatives like ALS.
