BJMP Mimaropa Recognized as Project PAG-ASA Champion at WSIS 2025

Manila: The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Mimaropa, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), has been named a project champion at the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes. The recognition honors Project PAG-ASA: Beyond Bars - Unlocking Opportunities through Digital Skills Training, an initiative that equips persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at BJMP Calapan City District Jails with essential digital skills, aiding their reintegration into society.

According to Philippines News Agency, "Project PAG-ASA reflects BJMP Mimaropa's dedication to transforming lives through education and technology. By providing PDLs with digital skills, we prepare them for reintegration and empower them to build a brighter future," Regional Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said as quoted in a news release on Wednesday. Out of numerous global submissions, only 72 projects were selected as WSIS Champions across 18 categories.

This acknowledgment underscores the project's alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting inclusive education and fostering digital inclusion. The final 18 winners will be announced on July 10, during the WSIS Prizes Awards Ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.

This recognition highlights the present administration's commitment to innovation and inclusive digital transformation, contributing to the vision of a digitally empowered Philippines. Through Project PAG-ASA, BJMP and DICT Mimaropa are not only providing PDLs with essential digital skills but also offering them a pathway to a brighter future, demonstrating the transformative power of education and technology in rehabilitation.
