Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recorded a surplus of PHP9.315 billion after collecting a total of PHP406.365 billion from January to May 2026. In a statement on Monday, the bureau reported that it has exceeded its PHP397.05 billion target collection for the period by 2.3 percent.
According to Philippines News Agency, the figure also represents an increase of PHP24.629 billion, or 6.5 percent higher than the total collection recorded in the same period in 2025. "The more than PHP9 billion surplus we recorded is proof that when we work together and do our jobs right, we can contribute significantly to the development of the country," said Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno. He noted that every peso collected by the BOC helps fund essential government programs and services that directly benefit the Filipino people.
The agency attributed its positive performance primarily to improved valuation and enhanced revenue collection measures, which helped offset the impact of lower import volumes during the period. In May 2026, the BOC collected PHP80.664 billion, falling slightly short of its target by PHP1.726 billion, or 2.1 percent. This was largely due to reduced import volumes of oil and non-oil commodities, as well as the implementation of Executive Order 114, which temporarily suspended excise taxes on selected petroleum products.
However, the bureau still recorded a year-on-year increase of PHP5.007 billion, or 6.62 percent, compared to PHP75.657 billion collected in May 2025.
