Manila: The Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) on Wednesday highlighted the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) as a significant achievement in the Bangsamoro people's journey towards self-determination and governance. OPAPRU Chief, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., made this statement during the sixth anniversary of the BOL ratification.
According to Philippines News Agency, Galvez emphasized that the ratification of the BOL was a pivotal moment for both the Bangsamoro people and the nation. He noted that the event marked a celebration of resilience, hope, and empowerment. The BOL serves as more than just a legal framework to implement the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, the peace agreement between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The BOL, ratified on January 21, 2019, through a plebiscite, led to the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and its regional government. Galvez applauded the Bangsamoro people's ability to influence the political and socioeconomic development of their region. He acknowledged the efforts of individuals whose dedication helped realize this milestone.
Galvez urged Filipinos to reflect on the lessons learned in the past six years and continue advocating for moral governance, inclusivity, and addressing the root causes of conflict and underdevelopment. He praised the Bangsamoro government, under Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, for this achievement.
He assured that the national government, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., would support BARMM's efforts to unlock the region's economic potential and demonstrate the benefits of pursuing peace. Galvez expressed hope that the commemoration would strengthen the collective resolve to sustain and build on the successes of the Bangsamoro peace process.
