Manila: Malaca±ang on Thursday said it is verifying claims that it received erroneous data on flood control projects from former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan. The statement was issued after Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson on Wednesday alleged that Bonoan 'deliberately submitted' incorrect grid coordinates of thousands of flood control projects nationwide to Malaca±ang.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated in a press briefing that they are currently in the process of verifying the allegations made by Senator Lacson. She emphasized that no details could be provided at this time as the verification process is ongoing.

Lacson, who chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, claimed he had received reliable information indicating that Bonoan provided false information to mislead President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. These actions, Lacson stated, resulted in inaccurate data concerning 421 ghost flood control projects.

Bonoan is currently in the United States to accompany his wife for a medical procedure. Lacson mentioned that a subpoena will be issued to Bonoan on Monday to compel his attendance at the next hearing. He also warned that the former DPWH chief could face contempt charges if he fails to appear.

Castro expressed that Bonoan should return to the country to address the matter, stating that the law of the Philippines will pursue individuals abroad if necessary. She noted that if evidence is presented, those accused will remain so until they return to the Philippines.

Castro reiterated President Marcos' firm stance that individuals involved in flood control anomalies must be investigated thoroughly. She emphasized the President's directive for a comprehensive investigation into all individuals implicated in the allegations.
