Manila: The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) fully awarded bids for Treasury-bills (T-bills) during Monday's auction. T-bill auction yields ended mixed with the 91-day T-bills recording the same rate while the 182- and 364-day T-bills saw an increase. The 91-, 182-, and 364-day T-bills fetched average rates of 5.605 percent, 5.752 percent, and 5.790 percent, respectively. According to Philippines News Agency, last week's average rates for the 91-, 182-, and 364-day T-bills settled at 5.605 percent, 5.735 percent, and 5.786 percent. Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation chief economist Michael Ricafort noted that the treasury bill average auction yield mostly corrected slightly higher for the sixth straight week. Ricafort further mentioned that a Donald Trump U.S. presidency could lead to fewer Federal Reserve rate cuts due to potential protectionist policies, which may result in higher import tariffs and wage inflation. These factors could contribute to increased overall US inflation. He also highlighted that a wider budget deficit from possible tax cuts and economic stimulus might lead to a greater supply of US Treasuries and higher Treasury yields, with the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield reaching four-month highs at 4.30 percent. The auction was almost three times oversubscribed, attracting PHP59.4 billion in total tenders. With its decision, the BTr raised the full program of PHP20 billion for the auction.
