Antique Records 1.5K Dengue Cases.

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA: The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has reported a significant increase in dengue cases this year, with 1,545 cases and three fatalities recorded between January 1 and November 3. According to Philippines News Agency, Antique IPHO information officer Irene Duldoco noted in a recent interview that the province had recorded 675 cases and two deaths during the same period last year. In response to the rising numbers, the IPHO, in partnership with the local government of Tibiao, has implemented spraying measures as the town reported the highest case count among Antique's 18 towns, with 204 cases. Duldoco emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in households to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The 4S strategy, which includes Search and Destroy mosquito breeding sites, employing Self-Protection measures, Seeking early consultation, and Supporting fogging/spraying in hotspot areas, remains a key focus. Marami Hecita, the IPHO Aedes-borne Viral Diseases Pre vention and Control Program Coordinator, advised the public during a recent press conference to seek early consultation if fever or dengue symptoms appear within 24 hours. She stressed the necessity for households to clean their surroundings prior to community spraying or misting. Hecita further explained that mosquitoes have a limited flight range of about eight meters, which is why spraying is targeted at the index house and its immediate neighbors. She recommended self-protection measures such as wearing long clothing and using mosquito repellent, given that mosquitoes are active during the day. The IPHO and Rural Health Units (RHUs) remain vigilant, monitoring barangays even after dengue cases have subsided, to prevent potential reoccurrences.
