Manila: The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) auction committee raised approximately PHP210 billion during the coupon rate setting auction for the five-year retail treasury bond (RTB) on Tuesday. The event marked a successful fundraising effort for the government, attracting significant attention from investors.
According to Philippines News Agency, the debt paper, designed to accommodate small investors with a minimum placement of PHP5,000 and multiples of PHP5,000 thereafter, achieved a coupon rate of 6 percent. The auction saw total bids reaching PHP354.175 billion, far surpassing the initial PHP30 billion offering.
The offer period for the bonds will continue until August 15, with the target issue date set for August 20. A swap option is available for holders of securities maturing on September 9, 2025, February 4, 2026, and February 14, 2026.
Investors are encouraged to invest through platforms such as the BTr website and several banks, including the Development Bank of the Philippines, Land Bank of the Philippines, Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, and China Banking Corporation. Authorized selling agents include numerous banks and financial institutions, providing multiple avenues for participation.
For those preferring application-based channels, options include mobile banking apps from Landbank and OFBank, as well as Bonds.PH, PDAX, and the virtual wallet GCash.
National Treasurer Sharon Almanza, speaking at the official launch of the RTB sale, urged the public to invest in the offering, emphasizing that it will benefit both individual investors and the nation as the funds will be used for government infrastructure projects. "By investing in RTBs you are investing in the future of the Philippines," she stated.
