Bulgaria Advances to FIVB Men’s World Championship Finals with Victory Over Czechia

Pasay city: Bulgaria secured a spot in the FIVB Men's World Championship finals after defeating Czechia with scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22 in a match held at the Mall of Asia Arena. The match witnessed a crowd of 6,896 spectators.

According to Philippines News Agency, outside hitter Aleksander Nikolov played a pivotal role in Bulgaria's victory, scoring 31 points from 27 attacks, three aces, and a block. Bulgaria, ranked ninth globally, is set to face either world number one Poland or defending champion Italy in the final match on Sunday.

Nikolov, expressing his excitement, stated, "Incredible! I am lost for words . We are medalists of this World Championship and I can't believe it! Tomorrow (Sunday) we are just going to try to color the medal in gold. But we have a medal, so we are happy." Nikolov's parents, Vladimir and Maya, attended the event in the Philippines.

In addition to Nikolov's performance, skipper Aleks Grozdazov contributed 12 points, while teammates Asparuh Asparuv and Simeon Nikolov added 10 and nine points, respectively. This marks Bulgaria's first opportunity to compete for the gold medal since 1970.

On the opposing side, Czechia's Lukas Vasina scored 17 points, including 14 attacks, two blocks, and one ace. Jan Galabov added 13 points, followed by Patrick Indra with 10 points and Antonin Klimes with nine points. Czechia's captain, Adam Zajicek, reflected on the match, stating, "We have given everything that we got. We fought and we fought, but Bulgaria was better."
