Butuan: Journalist and wildlife photographer Erwin Mascari±as opened a wildlife photo exhibit at SM City Butuan on Wednesday to mark the celebration of Earth Day. The exhibit, which runs until April 28, showcases photographs documenting diverse wildlife species and ecosystems from across the Philippines. 'Most of these photos were captured in the different provinces in the Caraga Region and some parts of the country,' Mascari±as said during the opening ceremony.
According to Philippines News Agency, the photographer described the exhibit as a medium for visual storytelling aimed at raising awareness about biodiversity conservation and the protection of natural habitats. Major sponsors for the event include the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity (ACB), Mindanaw News, and the offices of Representatives Dale Corvera and Arlene 'Kaka' Bag-ao.
ACB Executive Director Jerome Montemayor said in a statement that the center supports innovative approaches like photo exhibits to promote the sustainable management of nature. Montemayor noted that these wildlife photographs serve as living testimonies to the ecological wealth of the Philippines, one of the three megadiverse countries in the ASEAN region. The director emphasized that the captivating images should inspire collective action to protect and restore the environment for future generations.
Mascari±as also expressed his gratitude to the various groups and individuals whose support ensured the success of the weeklong Earth Day showcase.
