Butuan: The city government of Butuan ordered the immediate assessment of school infrastructures following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck most parts of Mindanao on Monday morning. Classes at all levels in the city were suspended to allow the Infrastructure Audit Team to conduct assessments. The tremor jolted General Santos City past 7 a.m., with different levels of intensity felt across Mindanao regions.

According to Philippines News Agency, the assessment aims to determine damage in school facilities that may pose danger to teachers and students, as stated by the Public Information Office of Butuan City. Residents were advised to remain vigilant and monitor developments through appropriate government agencies, and to follow safety protocols for possible aftershocks.

Local government units (LGUs) in Agusan del Sur also ordered class suspensions for school facility assessments. These include Bayugan City, Veruela, Talacogon, Esperanza, San Francisco, La Paz, Prosperidad, Rosario, and Loreto.

Meanwhile, LGU Tago in Surigao del Sur announced the temporary closure of Gamut Bridge for 24 hours as personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways conduct an assessment. The respective Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices in Surigao del Sur are also conducting sea level monitoring and assessment of coastal communities.
