Iloilo: Two key infrastructure projects are in the works to improve the Iloilo International Airport, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the first project focuses on the rehabilitation and upgrade of the passenger terminal building (PTB). Major improvements include comfort room renovations, wall repainting, wall cladding, roof fascia cleaning, and waterproofing of three fixed bridge roofs. Currently, the PTB can accommodate 367 domestic and 360 international passengers. Upon completion of the upgrades, capacity is expected to increase to 675 domestic and 407 international passengers.
Upgrades also cover the installation of air conditioning units, new escalators and an elevator, lighted signages, a flight information display system, gang chairs, and airport trolleys; enhancement of fire detection systems; corrective maintenance of boarding bridges; and repair of the departure conveyor system. The second project involves the supply, installation, and commissioning of three 600-kilowatt chillers, which will ensure efficient and reliable temperature control within the terminal.
"With a combined funding of over PHP190 million sourced from the DOTr (Department of Transportation) General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2024, these initiatives are aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand (R.) Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to enhance the country's transport infrastructure through the Build Better More program," CAAP said in a news release. CAAP Director General Raul del Rosario was quoted as saying that CAAP and DOTr remain fully committed to enhancing the travel experience of every passenger by ensuring that airports are safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly.
