Manila: Efforts of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to boost automation and infrastructure aim to adhere to international standards and enhance operational efficiency and the capability of aviation workers.

According to Philippines News Agency, CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario, during the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview on Monday, highlighted the automation of the aeronautical information system and the establishment of an advanced air traffic controller simulator. These initiatives are intended to expedite information provision and improve training for air traffic controllers. "The automation enables airport operators, airlines, and pilots to access the information online and use this for flight planning and clearances," Del Rosario explained.

In terms of infrastructure, Del Rosario mentioned the expansion of airport passenger terminal buildings in Tacloban and Siargao. He also noted the ongoing construction of airports in Bukidnon, Vigan, and Candon. "CAAP is also extending runways so these could accommodate larger jets," he added, emphasizing the need for infrastructure growth to support larger aircraft and increased air traffic.

To enhance safety and preparedness, CAAP has acquired eight firetrucks and plans to procure 16 more units. Del Rosario expressed his optimism about the continued growth in the aviation sector, with airlines expanding their fleet. "The CAAP is here and we, as regulator, prioritize flight safety and efficiency, as well as the convenience of our passengers," he stated.

Del Rosario also encouraged young individuals to consider careers in the aviation industry, highlighting the demand for air traffic controllers and maintenance workers.
