Manila: The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday said its compound remains secure after an explosion, allegedly caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), occurred near the entrance of its main office on Padre Faura Street in Ermita.

According to Philippines News Agency, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area is being reviewed to determine the cause of the explosion, which happened at approximately 12:17 a.m.

The DOJ said there were no reported casualties, but the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (PNP-EOD) unit was immediately notified and responded to conduct a technical examination.

'Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion,' the DOJ said in a statement.

'The situation is currently under control, and the DOJ compound remains secure,' it added.

The DOJ said it will remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and the general public, 'while supporting a comprehensive and impartial investigation.'
