CAAP Limits GenSan Airport Operations to Quake Response Flights

General santos: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Monday that landing and takeoff operations at General Santos Airport are restricted to government, military, and humanitarian flights following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Sarangani province.

According to Philippines News Agency, a Notice to Airmen is in effect from 3 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. on June 11, as stated in a CAAP advisory. Earlier the same day, CAAP had already announced the cancellation of 17 flights to and from General Santos Airport, citing the earthquake as the reason for this disruption.

The advisory detailed that Cebu Pacific has canceled 11 flights, while Philippine Airlines (PAL) Express canceled four flights, and PAL canceled two flights. Specific flights affected include Cebu Pacific's 5J4843 from Iloilo to General Santos and 5J4844 from General Santos to Iloilo, among others. PAL and PAL Express also canceled several routes such as PR453 from Manila to General Santos and 2P2357 from Cebu to General Santos.

Passengers have been advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight statuses. Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has issued warnings for aftershocks and urged residents in affected areas to remain evacuated until the tsunami warning is lifted and to avoid damaged structures.

Among the impacted infrastructures is the General Santos City International Airport, commonly known as Tambler Airport.
