CAAP Reports Zero Deaths, Fewer Aviation Incidents in 2024

Manila: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported zero deaths and fewer aviation incidents in 2024, highlighting a 48 percent reduction compared to the previous year.

According to Philippines News Agency, CAAP Director General Manuel Tamayo emphasized the strict measures employed in providing air operators certificates, training organizations, maintenance, and pilot licensing. "We were strict in providing air operators certificates, training organizations, maintenance, even among pilots. Before we issue them with licenses, they should be properly trained and pass the medical," Tamayo stated during an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

Tamayo acknowledged the numerous accidents and incidents in 2023 but noted improved oversight for both general and commercial aviation sectors in 2024. The number of accidents decreased from 13 in 2023 to four in 2024. Serious incidents also saw a decline, with figures dropping from six in 2023 to four in 2024, according to a CAAP news release.

CAAP further clarified that all reported incidents in the previous year were confined to general aviation and training, while commercial aviation maintained a perfect safety record with zero accidents or fatalities. The Philippines houses 82 airports, with 44 of these being commercially operated by CAAP.
