Cabinet to Tackle Possible Release of SALNs

Manila: The Cabinet of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is set to meet to discuss the possible disclosure of their Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs), Malaca±ang said on Friday. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed in a press briefing the scheduled meeting of Cabinet members on Saturday, describing it as a step that could signal a shift toward greater transparency under the Marcos administration.

According to Philippines News Agency, this development follows the decision by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, who lifted the restrictions on public access to the documents on Thursday. In 2020, the Office of the Ombudsman had limited public access to government officials' SALNs by requiring the consent of the statement's owner before a SALN request could be evaluated by the anti-graft body's office.

Several senators and congressmen have begun releasing their SALNs in light of the recent change. When asked whether President Marcos himself would follow suit, Castro responded, "Tingnan po natin kung ano po ang nararapat (We will see what is appropriate)."
