San juan: Jay Rack de la Noche scored 18 points off 14 attacks and four aces in leading AEP Cabstars to a 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 victory over VNS Always Bright Laticrete Friday in the Spikers' Turf Open Conference at the Filoil Playtime Centre in San Juan. The Cabstars improved their record to 3-3, sharing third place with the Alpha Insurance Protectors.
According to Philippines News Agency, Jared Schnake, a late addition to the team, chipped in 14 points on 10 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, while middle blockers Nas Gwaza and Michael Doria contributed with nine and seven points, respectively. "Actually, our practice games paid off, then our team bonding, so we really needed a lot of that for chemistry, for us to get to know each other, which is probably why the outcome of the game was like this," commented AEP head coach Kitty Antiporta after the 70-minute match.
AEP dominated VNS in attacks (45-37), blocks (7-4), and serve (7-0). EJ Casa±a orchestrated their offense with 19 excellent sets while Vince Lorenzo stabilized the defense with 15 receptions and 11 digs.
Jerzy Santos finished with 12 points while Winfred John Santos and Terrence Marticion chipped in eight points each for the Griffins, who took their seventh straight loss.
