Cagayan: The Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) will remain on blue alert in preparation for Tropical Depression Dante and the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility. Cagayan PDRRMC officer Benita Sigua said this was agreed upon during a pre-disaster risk assessment online meeting attended by concerned government personnel on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the blue alert status generally indicates the activation of an emergency response system, which includes the deployment of teams, experts, and potentially health units to prepare for or respond to an emergency situation. Cagayan has been on blue alert since July 20 due to Severe Tropical Storm Crising.
Apart from the alert status, Sigua said the "Bravo protocol" is still in effect in the province. 'The 'Bravo protocol' remains activated to ensure all rescue assets are prepared and response clusters are ready,' she said. The protocol prompts several actions, including the issuance of warnings and advisories to the public, pre-positioning of resources and personnel for potential response efforts, and monitoring for hazards like flooding or dam releases, among others.
Though there is low probability that Dante will make landfall, engineer Romeo Ganal of the Northern Luzon PAGASA Regional Services Division said there is a great chance that the cyclone will bring moderate to heavy rains in most parts of Luzon. As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dante was spotted about 1,120 kilometers east of Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour, and moving north westward at 20 kilometers per hour. Aside from Dante and the LPA, the southwest monsoon is also expected to bring rains in many parts of the country.
