Calabarzon Region Experiences 5.8% Inflation Rate in July 2026

Calabarzon: The Calabarzon Region registered an inflation rate of 5.8 percent in July 2026, marking a decline from the 6.3 percent recorded in the previous month. According to Philippines News Agency, this figure, while lower than June's rate, was significantly higher than the 1.8 percent noted in July 2025. The region's average year-to-date inflation rate from January to July 2026 stood at 5.0 percent.

PSA 4-A Regional Director Charito C. Armonia explained that the slower month-on-month increase in overall prices was primarily due to a decline in education services, which experienced a -1.3 percent inflation rate. Additionally, slower price increases in sectors such as housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (9.0 percent) as well as transport (9.8 percent) contributed to this moderation.

In terms of food groups within the region, certain items saw faster price increases in July 2026. These included rice, which rose by 13.7 percent; fish and other seafood at 7.5 percent; and flour, bread, and other bakery products, pasta, and other cereals, which increased by 6.2 percent. Other categories experiencing faster price hikes were fruits and nuts (5.1 percent); corn (4.7 percent); ready-to-eat food and other food products (4.6 percent); and vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses (1.9 percent).

Conversely, some food groups experienced slower price increases compared to June 2026. Oils and fats saw a 6.7 percent increase, sugar, confectionery, and desserts increased by 0.7 percent, and milk, other dairy products, and eggs saw a marginal increase of 0.1 percent. Notably, meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals recorded a faster price decline at -6.5 percent.

Regionally, the inflation rates varied among different areas. Laguna posted a 7.1 percent inflation rate, Rizal 6.6 percent, and Cavite 4.9 percent, all showing a decrease from their June 2026 rates. On the other hand, Quezon registered a 5.9 percent inflation rate, Lucena City 4.3 percent, and Batangas 4.2 percent, each recording faster increases in the prices of key goods and services.

The purchasing power of the peso in the region was recorded at PHP 0.74 in July 2026, compared to the 2018 baseline.
