Manila: Hope and compassion filled the halls of the Calapan City District Jail as the Provincial Health Office (PHO) conducted a free medical and skin consultation for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), bringing essential healthcare services directly to those most in need.

According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative, part of the PHO's ongoing outreach programs, provided PDLs with access to general check-ups and dermatological consultations without the necessity of leaving the facility. The program aimed to address both immediate medical concerns and preventive health needs among the incarcerated population.

BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo emphasized the significance of these initiatives. "Healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege. Programs like this ensure that our personnel and PDLs receive the care they deserve, while fostering dignity, compassion, and hope inside our facilities," Anglo stated in a news release.

District Jail Warden, Jail Senior Inspector Rodante Cayabyab, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the activity. "By bringing healthcare directly to our PDLs, we not only address their medical needs but also promote a culture of care and well-being within the jail," Cayabyab mentioned, adding that such initiatives strengthen partnerships between government agencies to improve service delivery.

The PHO and BJMP Calapan City District Jail management reiterated their commitment to continuing similar programs, emphasizing that acts of care and compassion remain at the heart of public service for all sectors of society.
