Negros occidental: Maria Lucia Dominique Calingasan of Cotabato City survived Merryl Stefanny Joy Monte, 6-1, 3-6 (10-1), to reach the girls' U14 semifinals in the Philta Age Group Championships on Tuesday at the San Carlos Tennis Center.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 13-year-old Calingasan, a Grade 7 student from Notre Dame of Cotabato, will face Arriana Tiongco, who whipped Annabel Savello, 6-0, 6-0, in her semifinal match. Kathyrine Bugna also advanced to the Final Four after prevailing over Khia Villarmente, 6-2, 6-1, and will compete against Julienne Tampos, who secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jeralyn Enyong.
In other matches, Zhynaiah Faye Gargaceran downed Princess Gabrielle Norbe, 6-4, 6-2, to reach the girls' U12 quarterfinals in the Group 1 event supported by Tecnifibre. Garceran will face Cassandra Athena Kate Lanterna, who advanced after Faith Krystelle Banico's withdrawal.
Lanterna also earned a spot in the U16 semis following Kathlyn Ann Bugna's no-show, who recently won three titles at the Bagong Pilipinas netfest in Manila. Lanterna will meet Princess Aquisha Obeniana, who defeated Molly Heloise Tan, 6-2, 6-3.
The other U16 semifinal match will feature Isobel Alipo-on against Mitchellen Cruspero. Alipo-on outlasted Alexa Mae Empalmado, 6-3, 6-4, while Cruspero overcame Rylie Raine Villamor, 6-0, 6-4.
In the girls' U18 division, Mercy Joie Pinili ousted Gesellyn Constancio, 6-2, 6-3, to set up a semifinal clash with Saze Dag Richly Nillama, who triumphed over Khiarlye Bugna, 6-1, 6-3. Queen Villa advanced after defeating Jamie Nathalie Carmona, 6-1, 6-0, and will face Lyraveth Rabor, who progressed due to Donna Mae Diamante's absence.
