Manila: Newly proclaimed senator Camille Villar announced her support for a legislative inquiry into PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp., a company owned by her family, which is currently facing numerous complaints related to service disruptions across the country. Villar, who is the youngest senator at 40, expressed her willingness to back the probe during her proclamation event at The Manila Hotel Tent City.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Bayan Muna Party-list alongside consumers has lodged a formal complaint with Malaca±ang, urging the cancellation of all joint venture agreements between PrimeWater and local water districts nationwide. The complaint highlights widespread service failures and alleged legal violations. In addition, Congress has been called upon to investigate the frequent water interruptions impacting areas such as the City of San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, and the provinces of Quezon, Cavite, and Bukidnon.
Besides supporting the investigation into PrimeWater, Villar aims to advocate for legislative measures focused on job creation, support for overseas Filipino workers, and the development of labor-intensive industries. She is one of six senators elected as part of the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition. Her fellow coalition winners include Erwin Tulfo, Panfilo Lacson, Vicente Sotto III, and reelected Senators Lito Lapid and Pia Cayetano.
Mark Villar, Camille's older brother, is also serving as a senator, with his term extending until 2028. Other successful candidates in the election include incumbents such as Senator Bong Go, who garnered over 27 million votes, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, and Senator Imee Marcos, alongside Bam Aquino, Francis Pangilinan, and Rodante Marcoleta.
