Cargo Vessel LCT MSCI 1 Runs Aground Near Ilocos Norte Shoreline

Ilocos norte: Cargo vessel LCT MSCI 1 ran aground on Monday near the shorelines of Barangay La Virgen Milagrosa in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, according to local authorities. The incident involved a vessel carrying aggregates, which was en route to Calayan Island in Cagayan province when it was forced ashore by stormy weather.

According to Philippines News Agency, an initial report from the Sinait police station in the adjacent Ilocos Sur province stated that water entered the ballast tanks, causing the vessel to tilt. This prompted coordinated rescue efforts by village watchmen, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine National Police from Sinait and the neighboring town of Badoc in Ilocos Norte. As a result, the 15 stranded crew members were rescued and brought ashore while they await the subsiding of the rough weather.

The weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon, known locally as "habagat," is affecting the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon. Additionally, localized thunderstorms are impacting the Cagayan Valley Region.
