Catanduanes: Catanduanes residents displaced by Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) expressed their gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his visit and the provision of food, non-food, and financial aid. According to Philippines News Agency, a few days after the super typhoon struck over the weekend, President Marcos visited the affected areas to assess the condition of the residents. He visited Tubli Elementary School in Barangay Tubli, located in the coastal municipality of Caramoran, where he inspected the damaged classrooms. He also inspected the houses and the seawall in the same barangay. Maria Efe Palero, the barangay captain, expressed her gratitude to the President for visiting her barangay and requested more aid for her community, which has a total population of 3,119. Palero appealed for help from anyone willing to provide for the needs of her constituents and emphasized the importance of cooperation to support her fellow villagers. She also requested the President to p rioritize projects that would benefit her barangay, including a rehabilitation site, strong foundations for seawalls, river control, drainage, evacuation centers, and housing. Palero reported that 161 houses were destroyed, and 367 were damaged. Residents like Vicente Nazareo Ortiz, 60, appreciated the family food packs he received, acknowledging that the aid was crucial since his primary sources of livelihood, abaca and coconut, were destroyed. Elena Begim Solsona, 79, whose house was damaged with the roof blown off, expressed her gratitude for the food pack, kit, and cash assistance, which she plans to use for repairing her roof. Following the whole-of-government approach, President Marcos instructed government agencies to continue providing relief and assistance to the typhoon-affected residents to help them recover as quickly as possible. The aid includes the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, offering cash to residents whose ho mes were damaged. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development continues to distribute family food packs, with the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Coast Guard assisting in the transportation of the goods.
