Manila: The InterReligious Leaders' Council for National Transformation (IRLCNT) on Tuesday approved the 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., specifically on the government's fight against corruption. In a statement, IRLCNT Convener Bishop Colin Bagaforo lauded the declaration of the Chief Executive that 'corruption has no place in public service.'

According to Philippines News Agency, the Catholic bishop highlighted that the SONA underscores the government's commitment to addressing corruption through tangible actions, such as filing cases from the flood control scandal, tackling election-related anomalies, and conducting other investigations. These efforts are seen as critical steps toward rebuilding public trust.

Bagaforo also noted that the SONA acknowledges the importance of enhancing social services and improving access to quality education, housing, and healthcare. In addition, he praised Marcos for emphasizing the need to create decent employment opportunities, pursue agrarian reform, strengthen the anti-corruption campaign, reform the energy sector, and uphold the country's sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.

"These are not merely policy priorities. They are moral imperatives if government is to fulfill its constitutional duty to serve the people," Bagaforo stated. He urged the Filipino faithful to remain vigilant and continue holding the government accountable.

The bishop reminded the public that the government is accountable not only for its commitments before the nation but also for upholding the constitutional principle that public office is a public trust and that the government exists to serve the people.
