Manila: The humanitarian arm of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Friday appealed to the faithful to continue helping those affected by the spate of natural calamities that hit the country in recent months.

According to Philippines News Agency, Caritas Philippines has appealed for solidarity among the people amid the recent strong earthquakes and typhoons. "We are calling on all Filipinos to unite in faith, charity, and action," the statement said. "Let us help one another - volunteer, share what we can, and pray for those affected."

The group urged parishes, diocesan social action centers, civil society organizations, and volunteers to work with the community in extending relief assistance to the affected areas. It mentioned that the national Caritas network is on the ground coordinating responses and urging the people to participate in efforts to provide assistance to localities.

"Caritas Philippines invites everyone to continue praying for safety and strength for all those affected, and to extend support through donations, volunteer work, or community outreach," the statement added.

The country has been hit by strong earthquakes in Cebu, Davao Oriental, La Union, Surigao del Sur, and Zambales, affecting thousands of people. Still reeling from the strong earthquake, Cebu was once again battered by Typhoon Tino on Nov. 4, causing massive floods. Several other provinces in the Visayas were also hit by the typhoon, killing more than a hundred persons and displacing thousands of residents.
