Manila: The social action arm of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Tuesday called on all dioceses and archdioceses to form actions against corruption in government. In a statement, the CBCP - Episcopal Commission on Social Action, Justice, and Peace (ECSA-JP) headed by chairman Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo asked them to establish their respective social action centers to fight anomalous practices.
According to Philippines News Agency, the CBCP urged its network and partners in the country's 87 archdioceses and dioceses to begin movements supporting the President's call to eradicate corruption. This call comes after the President highlighted corruption issues in his last State of the Nation Address (SONA), focusing on practices of uncontrolled greed and impunity, evident in sub-standard, uncompleted, and ghost flood control projects and other infrastructure developments.
The movements aim to support a full and transparent investigation into these anomalous undertakings, ensuring accountability for those responsible. The goal is to bring truth and accurate information on investigations and findings to communities, discussing the impact of documented corrupt projects and practices on basic government services.
Bishop Bagaforo stated the commission is prepared to act as the secretariat until these movements are fully organized. The President, during his SONA, condemned alleged collusion between public officials and private contractors in misappropriating government funds through flood control projects.
