Manila: The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has initiated a review of the PHP20 billion education subsidy grants under the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) program. This action follows the Commission on Audit's (COA) report, which highlighted non-liquidation and delays in the submission of reports related to the program.

According to Philippines News Agency, CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis expressed her commitment to collaborate with other agencies to carry out the necessary procedures and investigations. Agrupis has instructed the relevant offices within the Commission to thoroughly examine the COA report, trace any potential anomalous payments made to various higher education institutions (HEIs), and identify any individuals responsible for violations of applicable laws and regulations.

Agrupis noted that the alleged irregularities occurred during the previous administration, emphasizing her commitment to ensuring the proper implementation of major programs during her tenure. She reassured the public of her dedication to upholding the Universal Access to Quality Education Act, ensuring that funds are managed lawfully, and that the Commission's activities comply with government spending rules and auditing regulations.
