Chinese Consul Confident of Enduring PH-China Relations

Laoag: The Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Laoag expressed hope that the long-standing friendship and neighborly ties between China and the Philippines will continue to enhance bilateral relations. "We are good neighbors. I went to 13 provinces, meeting governors and vice governors, and visited universities. I saw that people are very nice and kind, and they want the Philippines and China to continue to have good relations," Consul Li Xiaoyan said during the 25th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day, organized by the Filipino-Chinese community here on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Consul Li Xiaoyan also expressed hope for stronger ties between Beijing and Manila through increased people-to-people cooperation and exchanges. In his message, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong thanked the Filipino-Chinese community for its generosity, service, and contributions to the city's development. Many of Baguio's major businesses and establishments are owned by Filipino-Chinese families who settled in the city in the early 1900s and helped build key infrastructure, including Kennon Road.

Magalong noted that the friendship between the two nations extends beyond cultural ties, highlighting various programs that continue to benefit communities and support the city's progress. "You are not just felt during good times but most especially during bad times, giving a hand and your resources," he added. "In a world with uncertainties, we look up to those who look after us. Thank you for your support and generosity."

One of the highlights of the anniversary celebration was a gift-giving activity for beneficiaries from various barangays in Baguio City.
