City Government to Enhance Waste Management with More Garbage Bins in Barangays

Iloilo city: The city government is set to deploy additional garbage bins and designate new collection areas in barangays to encourage residents to engage in proper waste disposal practices. Mayor Raisa Tre±as announced plans to meet with Engr. Niel Ravena, head of the General Services Office, to review and strategize the placement of garbage cans throughout the city, aiming to kickstart the implementation within the week.

According to Philippines News Agency, the citywide launch of the cleanup campaign over the weekend successfully collected 10 tons of garbage. At the kickoff location in Barangay San Juan, approximately 6,000 kg of waste were gathered. The citywide cleanup initiative, scheduled for every Saturday, is a proactive measure in response to the increasing dengue cases during the rainy season.

Mayor Tre±as emphasized the importance of sustaining the cleanup efforts and ensuring their effective execution. She mentioned the establishment of dedicated offices to monitor the progress of the cleanup drive. The mayor also highlighted the necessity of strategically placing garbage bins in accessible locations to facilitate public use.

Tre±as called on the private sector to participate in educating the public about proper solid waste management practices and encouraged donations of old drums or cans that could be converted into garbage bins.
