Classes Suspended in Batangas School Due to ‘Shooting Threat’

Manila: Classes in all levels and on-site activities are suspended at the Batangas City Integrated High School on Monday following an alleged shooting threat. In a statement, the school said the suspension would be in place while the situation is under assessment.

According to Philippines News Agency, the school's Disaster Risk Reduction Management advised everyone not to enter or proceed to the school premises while the suspension remains in effect, emphasizing that the safety of everyone is the highest priority. The school administration has urged the public to report any suspicious messages and refrain from spreading unverified information, stressing the importance of vigilance.

The school administration assured that it is in close coordination with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of the school community. They also mentioned that the resumption of classes would be communicated through the school's official channels.

After a few hours, the school administration announced that classes would resume on Tuesday with additional security measures. "Regular classes will resume tomorrow, June 30, 2026. Students and personnel are advised to follow the usual class schedule unless otherwise announced through official school channels," BCIHS Principal IV Aida Gutierrez stated in a separate announcement.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co revealed that the threat came from a 'bullied' student and was received via the school's social media page late Sunday night. The message threatened violence against students from Grades 7 to 10, allegedly from a Grade 10 student who felt bullied.

The threat was read by a school adviser and is now under investigation by the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group. Co mentioned that police officers immediately coordinated with the school to verify the report's authenticity. Investigators are considering the possibility that the account used was under a fictitious name.

Col. Co noted that at first glance, one might suspect it to be a copycat incident, possibly linked to exam avoidance, as similar situations previously involved bomb threats to delay exams. However, he emphasized that such threats are no longer amusing.
