Tacloban city: Several provinces and cities in Eastern Visayas suspended classes Tuesday due to heavy rains caused by a shear line. Governors in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar ordered class suspensions in all levels based on rainfall warnings and recommendations from disaster councils.

According to Philippines News Agency, several areas, including Borongan City and many municipalities, were placed under orange and yellow rainfall warnings, indicating serious weather risks. Along with the suspension of classes, work of teaching and non-teaching personnel in schools is also suspended, Eastern Samar Gov. Ralph Vincent Evardone said in a statement Tuesday.

In Tacloban City, thousands of students were sent home after an orange rainfall advisory, with the city citing an automatic suspension policy under Department of Education guidelines. Multiple towns in Leyte province also declared suspensions.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration issued a heavy rainfall outlook and identified numerous rivers at risk of flooding across six provinces.
