BUTUAN CITY: Personnel from the Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte (CGS-SDN) planted over 2,000 mangrove propagules in Barangay Nabago, Surigao City, on Sunday as part of ongoing environmental protection efforts. The initiative is part of a larger commitment to environmental sustainability and national greening initiatives. According to Philippines News Agency, the planting activity was conducted within a 10-hectare mangrove plantation adopted by the station under the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The CGS-SDN emphasized their dedication to these initiatives, highlighting the ecological benefits that mangrove planting provides. Personnel from various CGS-SDN substations, including those stationed in Surigao City and Lipata, participated in the event. This activity marks the second recent environmental effort by CGS-SDN, following a similar event on November 16, when the station planted more than 2,000 mangrove propagules and conducted a coastal cl ean-up in Barangay Mabua, Surigao City. The CGS-SDN underscored the importance of mangroves as a natural barrier against coastal erosion, their role in enhancing biodiversity, and their contribution to improving the health of Surigao City's coastal communities. These environmental efforts aim to foster sustainable ecosystems and support the well-being of the local population.
