Manila: Combined damage on infrastructure and agriculture caused by the effects of recent tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon (habagat) already hit nearly PHP10.8 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the latest NDRRMC data show that agriculture damage was estimated to be around PHP3 billion. This damage was incurred in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas. An estimated 67,688.27 hectares of crop area were affected by the adverse weather, with around 20,125.46 hectares classified as "with no chance of recovery" and about 47,562.81 hectares with a "partial chance of recovery". The agency reported that a total of 74,262 farmers and fisherfolk were affected due to the weather conditions.

In terms of infrastructure, the NDRRMC stated that the estimated damage totals to around PHP7.78 billion. This damage was reported in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas. Additionally, around 3,851 houses were reported damaged in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Central Luzon, National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
