Baguio city: The Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Baguio announced a new initiative allowing voters from other towns or provinces to register or reactivate their records in Baguio City or nearby La Trinidad, Benguet starting October 21. This new service, known as the 'Register Anywhere Program' (RAP), aims to streamline the voter registration process.
According to Philippines News Agency, lawyer John Paul Martin, Baguio City election officer, emphasized that voters only need to present valid identification to confirm their identity and can then register at the location where they intend to vote in the upcoming election. Baguio and La Trinidad are included among the areas offering RAP services, alongside other highly urbanized cities and provincial capitals across the country.
The program is designed to increase convenience by allowing voters to register where they currently reside, eliminating the need to travel to their original voting locations. However, Martin noted that all applications will still undergo a verification and approval process. Registrants are advised to provide proof of residence in their chosen voting area.
The seven-month registration period will also accommodate other transactions such as transfers of registration, correction of entries, issuance of voter's certificates, and new voter registration. Martin encouraged the public to take advantage of the early registration period to avoid last-minute congestion before the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
